Cities2gether AI, an India-born technology platform, announced the beta launch of its global repository of public policies — a move that could place India on the map as a leader in AI for governance, an area where the country has been largely absent.
While India has become a powerhouse in IT services, fintech, and consumer apps, the number of homegrown AI technology companies tackling governance and public policy challenges is vanishingly small. Cities2gether AI is breaking this mold, using artificial intelligence to connect cities worldwide and enable faster, evidence-based policymaking.
“India has some of the fastest-growing cities in the world, yet AI is still underutilized in

solving urban challenges,” said Mr. Achyut Shankar, Co-founder & CEO, Cities2gether AI. “With Cities2gether, we’re proving that India can build world-class, mission-driven AI platforms that directly impact governance and improve lives.”
The founding team reflects this global ambition and deep expertise. Mr. Diogo Sie Lima, Co- founder & COO, is a policy researcher with experience in governance, education, and civic engagement across Brazil and Europe. Mr. Nitin Awasthi, Co-founder & CTO, is a seasoned entrepreneur who co-founded India’s pioneering startup studio, incubating over 30 startups across healthtech, legaltech, agritech, and fintech. His track record in building scalable digital solutions now drives Cities2gether’s product innovation.
The beta platform offers:
- A searchable library of thousands of policy documents from multiple cities worldwide.
- AI-assisted recommendations that adapt global best practices to local contexts.
- Interactive mapping to identify policy trends and opportunities.
“Our vision is that a climate policy from Copenhagen could inspire actionable change in Chennai,” said Shankar. “The tools exist — we’re making them accessible.”
Awasthi added, “The fact that this is being built in India matters. It signals that we can lead in AI for governance, not just consume imported solutions.”
Cities2gether AI is inviting policymakers, think tanks, and civil society groups to test the beta, ahead of a public launch in a few months with expanded datasets and multilingual capabilities.
