OpenAI has announced a major expansion of its enterprise capabilities, officially rolling out Connectors to securely link ChatGPT Enterprise and ChatGPT Edu accounts with a company’s private data sources. This enhancement transforms ChatGPT from a general-purpose AI assistant into a deeply informed, customized analyst capable of surfacing proprietary knowledge with cited, verifiable answers.
The new feature, dubbed “Company knowledge,” allows ChatGPT to access context from popular workplace applications, including Slack, SharePoint, Google Drive, GitHub, Notion, HubSpot, Zendesk, and more. For the first time, users can query ChatGPT and receive answers grounded not just in its foundational training, but also in their organization’s internal documents, communications, and code repositories. Critically, the system respects all existing company permissions, ensuring ChatGPT can only access data that each individual user is already authorized to view.
This move is a direct challenge in the race to build a secure, integrated AI for the modern workforce.

This is the essential next step for AI in the workplace,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. “To truly elevate team performance, an AI assistant must be deeply ingrained in the organization’s unique knowledge, operating with enterprise-grade security and trust. This move transforms ChatGPT from a general intelligence tool to a custom, highly-informed strategic partner for every employee.”

Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer
The development of the integration framework was led by the company’s product teams. Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer, who leads product development across both consumer and enterprise offerings, oversaw the integration of the enterprise-grade security and permissions architecture required for the feature.
Key features of the Connectors include:
- Cited Answers: Every response that pulls from company knowledge includes citations and direct links back to the source file or message (e.g., a Google Doc, a Slack thread, or a GitHub ticket).
- Enterprise-Grade Security: OpenAI has reinforced its commitment to privacy, stating that business data and conversations are never used to train OpenAI models by default, and all data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
- Workflow Acceleration: Teams can use the connected AI to create detailed campaign summaries from HubSpot and Google Docs, compile bug reports from Slack and GitHub, or quickly onboard new employees with instant access to policies stored in SharePoint.
The launch solidifies OpenAI’s strategy to become the foundational AI layer for business operations, empowering employees with a tool that knows their company as well as they do, without compromising security. The feature is currently rolling out to all ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu customers.
