Paytm (One 97 Communications Limited), India’s full stack merchant payments leader serving MSMEs and enterprises, and a leading financial services distribution company, and the pioneer of mobile payments, QR codes, and Soundbox, has introduced secure Biometric Authentication for payments on the Paytm app, enabling payments to be verified using Fingerprint or Face ID instead of manually entering the UPI PIN. The platform has also enabled cardless ATM withdrawals, further strengthening security and convenience in everyday payments. These capabilities reinforce Paytm’s focus on delivering a secure, reliable and trusted mobile payments experience.
This brings biometric verification into everyday use on the Paytm app, across payments, balance checks and ATM withdrawals. It works using the built-in biometric security of smartphones, including fingerprint sensors on Android and Face ID on iOS, with verification completed directly on the device and no biometric data stored or accessed by Paytm or the bank, ensuring privacy and safety. The UPI PIN continues to remain available, offering complete flexibility based on individual preference. In line with NPCI guidelines, biometric UPI payments will begin with a ₹5,000 per-transaction limit.
Paytm has also enabled secure cardless cash withdrawals at supported ATMs. Cash can be withdrawn by scanning the QR code on the ATM screen using the Paytm app and verifying using Face ID, fingerprint or UPI PIN. This removes the need to carry a physical debit or ATM card and reduces dependence on cards for cash access. Paytm’s UPI infrastructure also allows seamless selection between multiple linked bank accounts for withdrawals. It works across participating ATMs, with a per-transaction withdrawal limit generally up to ₹10,000, subject to individual bank and UPI limits, while daily limits may vary as per bank policy.
Paytm spokesperson said, “We continue to build Paytm as a trusted platform for everyday payments. With Face ID and fingerprint, payments are now verified directly on the smartphone, and with cardless ATM withdrawals, there is no need to carry physical cards. This makes payments and cash access simpler, faster and more secure.”
