PPDS, the exclusive global provider of Philips Professional Displays and complementary solutions, is excited to announce the evolution of its EcoDesign learnings, wrapped together with its ‘future proof product thinking’, to become ReDesign. Alongside the new naming, the company has extended the circular design approach that enabled the EPEAT Climate+ Gold rated Philips Signage 3650 EcoDesign, applying it to the development of new products. This philosophy reinforces PPDS’ long term commitment to sustainability, circularity, and social responsibility, embedded through every stage of its product lifecycles.

Since its creation, PPDS has placed sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of its global operations at the heart of its business. Going beyond the performance and innovation expected from today’s professional display solutions – spanning digital signage and ePaper, interactive displays, videowalls and dvLED, as well as professional TVs – PPDS has continually invested in research and development to create smarter, more energy efficient technologies that help businesses reduce their environmental footprint and their operating costs.

This commitment forms the foundation of PPDS’ redefined ReDesign philosophy, which harnesses all previous learnings and technological breakthroughs and discoveries and spans initial concept and manufacturing, packaging, delivery, installation, remote management, and end of life recycling.

Taking action

Balancing a reduction of energy consumption and using materials that have less impact on the planet with high performance and commercial value for customers, the reimagined ReDesign philosophy is built around six core principles. Together, these guide the design, development, and delivery of products that minimise resource consumption, reduce waste and landfill, and support a more sustainable future. These principles are:

  • Reduce: Design products and packaging using less materials and resources and requiring less energy in manufacture and usage.
  • Reuse: Develop products and services for a longer lifecycle, with upgradeable/ modular components, or that can be reused again.
  • Repair: Deliver products that can be repaired more easily, extending display lifetimes and return on investment for existing owners.
  • Refurbish: Innovate products that can be refurbished, repurposing them for extended opportunities and use with new owners.
  • Recycle: Create products and packaging made of recycled and bio-based materials, designed so they can be easily recycled after use
  • Reinvent: Combine all these approaches to design, develop and deliver new products, services and business models for the future.

Mr. Andrea Barbuti, Global Product Manager in EMEA for PPDS commented, “In 2023, we introduced our QE-Line EcoDesign display, delivering the same high performance as its equivalent Philips Signage 3000 Series (Q-Line), while reducing power consumption by up to 50% compared with the same. This approach has allowed us not only to continuously improve our own sustainability performance, but also to help set new benchmarks for the industry.”

He continued: “Now, we are incorporating those learnings – that philosophy – into all our latest displays. Because, put simply, why would we limit sustainability to one product? ReDesign represents the next evolution of that journey. It builds on everything we have achieved and learnt through the creation of EcoDesign, applying those insights across our portfolio to create more sustainable products, reduce environmental impact, and help our customers achieve their own sustainability ambitions.”

Setting new standards in AV

Part of a strategic rollout, products incorporating the new ReDesign methodology are already being manufactured and delivered across PPDS’ worldwide local for local network. Supported by parent company TPV’s extensive manufacturing capabilities, with facilities spanning Europe, the Americas, India, Asia Pacific and China, ReDesign will be progressively applied across Philips Professional Displays.

Examples include the recently unveiled Philips Signage 7000 Series launched at InfoComm 2026, together with Philips Signage 5000 Series (D-Line) and the Philips Signage 2000 Series unveiled in the months before.

Beyond the displays themselves, ReDesign extends to every aspect of product delivery, including more sustainable packaging solutions. Innovations include packaging formats that have been reduced without compromising on protection integrity, recycled brown cardboard and packaging that is almost entirely plastic free. Continued improvements in palletisation are also delivering measurable environmental benefits, contributing to an estimated annual reduction of 184 tonnes of Tank-to-Wheel (TTW) CO₂ emissions while saving approximately 107 tonnes of wood each year.

The story continues

PPDS continues to advance its display for the greater good strategy, as well as helping shape a more sustainable future for the global AV industry.

Mr. Stefan van Sabben, Global Director CSR and Sustainability for TPV, including PPDS added, “Sustainability is not simply a buzzword, it is a business imperative that will shape the future of our industry. Real progress requires long term commitment and meaningful action, not short term initiatives or headline grabbing claims. At PPDS, sustainability has been embedded in our business, with continuous investment in research, development and innovation delivering measurable benefits for both our customers and the environment.”

Ms. Vicky Fox, Head of Communications and a member of the sustainability team at PPDS concluded, “ReDesign represents the next evolution of our business and our commitment to people and the planet. It is not simply about reducing plastic or energy use. It is about rethinking every stage of a product’s journey and lifecycle, from design and manufacturing through to longer lifetime and end of life. Our responsibility to sustainability does not end at the point of sale; it continues throughout the entire product lifecycle and beyond. That’s ReDesign, and this is the future of Philips Professional Displays.”
