IT and cybersecurity veteran Anil Kuril has taken on a new responsibility as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Head of the newly established Data Protection Office at Union Bank of India (UBI), driving security, privacy, and innovation hand-in-hand.
Kuril’s new chapter is to lead UBI’s cybersecurity strategy, incident response, threat intelligence, and data privacy initiatives.
Elevation of Anil Kuril by the Union Bank aligns with the need for strong, proactive cyber and data governance in the backdrop of the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and a rapidly evolving threat landscape.
After serving as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Data Protection (CDO), this transition marks a significant milestone in Kuril’s journey—and a bold strategic shift for the Bank. Union Bank of India is now the first in the Indian banking industry to formally elevate cybersecurity and data protection to the leadership level, aligning it alongside technology and digital transformation.
Over the years, Anil Kuril has driven several key digital transformation initiatives—enhancing customer experience, strengthening cyber posture, and scaling digital capabilities of the bank. This new role allows Kuril to build on that foundation by focusing even more deeply on embedding trust, governance, and resilience into every layer of the bank’s digital strategy.
Prior to United Bank, Kuril was associated with Punjab National Bank and Allahabad Bank.
Kuril completed his BE in Computer Engineering from Shri G.S. Institute of Technology & Science, Indore.
